Main Task: Case Study of a Publishing House

Harris Publications
The magazine company I have decided to research is Harris Publishing Inc. This is an American company that publishes many different magazines, over 75 different titles. There are many different categories of magazines this publishing house produces from Automotive and Business to Comics and Music.
Harris Publishing began in 1971 and quickly launched three magazines which were ‘potato Grower’, ‘snoWest’ and ‘Sugar Producer’. Later on in the years, publications in boating, golf, trucks, lifestyle, and snowmobiling were added.
Harris Publishing includes 15 different niche publications and five speciality events in those niche areas.
Harris publishing is especially known for its writing, photography and design in consequence is very respect because of it. It is very good at finding the niche and attracts special interests in its readers. Some of its titles are known worldwide such as XXL King & Rides.
Harris Publications is based in New York which to many is seen as the centre of the world when it comes to media and entertainment.

Individual magazines; Celebrity & Lifestyle

There are many different types of audiences that Harris Publishing tries to appeal to since there are so many different types of magazines that it produces such as well known XXL, Juicy and King.
XXL is a hip hop magazine which has been tailored to suit audiences of the ages around 15-30; mainly a male audience of an African American decent.
Juicy has been a well established magazine title and the audience this magazine appeals to is African American ladies of maybe their middle age of which gossip is their main focus.
King has also been published by Harris Publishing. It is a monthly men’s magazine which the main focus is African American and urban audiences. It was like a by-product from XXL.
