Main Task: Evaluation FINAL

Main Task: Post Production Feedback

Front Cover Feedback

Strengths:
People thought that the front cover was neat and the structure was very organised. People also said it was easy to identify the different conventions which were present. Some people thought that the colors were correct as they were bright and it gives off a positive vibe to the magazine. Other people thought that the main image on the front cover depicts what the magazine is all about.
Weaknesses:
People thought that the model on the front cover's face was not really seen and therefore takes away the focus of the main image. Other people found it hard to read some of the text which was white, on top of the light colored background.

Contents Page Feedback

Strengths:
People found that the contents page was very consistent to the front cover and could be largely recognised with it. Another thing that people found about about my contents page was that it was very tidy and seemed like there was nothing out of place. Some other people thought that the contents page is very light and therefore made people want to read it. Another thing about my contents page that people liked were that it had nice colour coordination.
Weaknesses:
Some people thought that there was not that many pictures taken for the contens page and that lets it down.

Double Page Spread Feedback

Strengths:
People thought that the double page spread had lots of detail and that made people interested in it. Other people found that the interview questions on the double page spread was realistic and very interesting. As well as this, people found the double page spread to look a bit futuristic with the colours and so made the page more attractive. People thought that the text for the double page spread was interesting and the design of it looked quite modern.
Weaknesses:
Some people thought that the double page spread was a bit dark and gloomy which might be off putting for and R&B magazine. Some other people thought that the double page spread did not really go with the rest of the magazine.

Main Task: Front Cover FINAL

Main Task: Unmanipulated Photos

I decided to use this picture on my contents page as it shows the person laughing which gives a up beat feel to my magazine.

I decided to have this picture as my front cover because I believe it to be a strong image which r
epresents how young people react to R&B as it is soothing and something people definitely want to listen to.

I thought this image was good to use on my Double Page Spread as it has good length and shows some emotion which is always good for magazines.

I have used
this as the main image on my contents page I think it is a strong picture that shows the girl looking very concentrated.

I decided to use this image because it is a strong image which I have place in my contents page. I used this photo because it is a believable image and looks good.

Images which were not used

I never used this image because the arm has been cut off of this girl and it spoils the photo.

I never used this image as part of my magazine because it looks as if the guy in the photo is uncomfortable and this would give the wrong impression for my product.

Set up of the photo shoot

This is the set up of the photo shoot, as you can see the softbox has been positioned in front of the guy in the image, it is also not too far away so the lighting will be sufficient.

Main Task: Case Study of a Publishing House

Harris Publications
The magazine company I have decided to research is Harris Publishing Inc. This is an American company that publishes many different magazines, over 75 different titles. There are many different categories of magazines this publishing house produces from Automotive and Business to Comics and Music.

Harris Publishing includes 15 different niche publications and five speciality events in those niche areas.
Harris publishing is especially known for its writing, photography and design in consequence is very respect because of it. It is very good at finding the niche and attracts special interests in its readers. Some of its titles are known worldwide such as XXL King & Rides.
Harris Publications is based in New York which to many is seen as the centre of the world when it comes to media and entertainment.

Main Task: Profiling Your Audience

Profiling Your Audience
This is Haleemah, She is 17 years old and has an immense passion for music. Her favourite kind of music is most definately R&B. She has two favourite artists which are Frank Ocean and Keri Hilson. The type of music Haleemah listens to influences the way she talks acts and dresses such as huge loop earings that she will never come out of. She likes to think of herself as a R&B queen as she always is presented in the best of ways and of course is always up to date with the latest music.

Haleemah finds it very easy to keep up to date with the most up to date music because she has got every type of music application that is avaliable, not to mention her iPod being filled with music she has admitted to buying at least 3 songs every week. YouTube is her favourite website and she never stops going on it.

Main Task: Audience Research

For my audience research I asked a few people different questionns relating to my music magazine through the use of 'BlackBerry Messenger' and 'Whats App'. I asked 5 questions which were :

1. Which font best suits an RnB magazine?

2. How much would you pay for a music magazine?
£1-1.50
£2-2.50
£3-3.50

3. What colour scheme best suits an RnB magazine?

4.What do you look for in a music magazine? -Events, Gossip, Interviews etc.

5. What genre do you prefer; 'Hip Hop' or 'RnB'

Main Task: Double Page Spread Conventions Diagram

Main Task: Double Page Spread Textual Analysis

Denotation:
The double page spread consists of a multi coloured dark background and two photographs of a woman in which she is looking at the camera in both images. The image on the left side of the double page spread has a woman smiling and her head slightly tilted in the direction of the camera. On the picture on the right side of the double page spread, the woman looks more modest, and she is holding her knee. The camera shot that was taken of the woman on the left side of the double page spread is a medium close up, showing her head, shoulders and her chest. However on the right side of the double page spread, the shot that has been taken is a medium long shot showing her head shoulders and part of her legs.

Connotation:
As there are two pictures of the woman, the picture on the left which is in dark brown may indicate that’s how she used to be. Just like a flash back, the magazine may want us to remember the glossy side of the woman. But in the right picture, the lady looks at the camera in a gentle way which may suggest that she as an older artist may not be trying so hard for her career, but to look back on it.

Colour Scheme:
The colour scheme of this double page spread is orange and brown. This may be to give the impression of a dated person. The woman in the picture, Jamelia could be seen as an older artist compared to the more modern artists of today’s music. Having the brown and orange colour scheme may make the reader think that she is not over and done with but still has more to come.

Denotation:
The double page spread consists of a colourful photograph which is a medium long shot from his head to his thighs of a man who is standing up and has his hands out to the side. The man is also leaning to one side and has his head tilt while still looking at the camera.

Colour Scheme:
The colour scheme of this double page spread is orange & blue. These bright colours give the double page spread the theme of summer time which is also the main title. From doing this, the double page spread looks more friendly and bright, more likely to attract younger readers.

Connotation:
The photograph of the man standing with his arms out to the side may suggest he is imitating an aeroplane, since the time most people like to travel is summer which is also the theme.
The circles around ‘summer time’ are like a sun hence the writing in bold letters. As well as this, it can be used as a target so it would be the first thing that the readers look at, making them want to read on since everybody loves summer.
